Not for matte paint, not for matte wraps, and no substitute for shampoo.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/blockquote\u003e\n\n\u003chr\u003e\n\n\u003cp id=\"speakable-definition\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe A1 ALL in ONE heavy-duty cleaner\u003c\/strong\u003e is the pre-cleaner in the A1 line for every exterior surface: paint, plastic, metal, glass, headlights and every kind of wheel. Dr. Wack puts it before the wash, not in place of it. A little goes onto the wet wash mitt or sponge, gets worked in with light pressure and is then rinsed off with plenty of water. There's no dilution; you control the amount via the sponge.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003ePush a dried-on bug with your wash mitt and you drag a hard chitin shell across the clear coat. That's the exact moment swirls are born: the haze of fine scratches you only notice when the sun sits low over the bonnet. This product comes before that. Its anionic surfactants creep under the bond between the deposit and the paint, much like water softening a sticker. The spot isn't ripped off, the grip is released. For you that means the residue floats away when you rinse, and your hand doesn't have to push anything.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe cleaner is formulated and bottled by Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie in Baar-Ebenhausen. In the product information sheet the manufacturer is unusually frank about the claim: until now, these four types of contamination could only be removed with several specialist products, some of them aggressive. So it's not about the top score on each individual stain, but one bottle for four jobs that would otherwise sit side by side on the shelf.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cul\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eFour specialists in one bottle.\u003c\/strong\u003e Bugs, bird droppings, sap and tar spots, plus old wax and sealant layers are all on the same approval list, together with paint, plastic, metal, glass, headlights and every wheel type. Moving from the wing to the headlight, you don't have to read a second label.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eThree minutes is the ceiling, not the starting point.\u003c\/strong\u003e Normally you work with no dwell time at all: apply, work in, rinse. Only if a spot is still there after the first pass does Dr. Wack allow a second round with a maximum of 3 minutes, explicitly on small areas.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eTwo sizes for two situations.\u003c\/strong\u003e 500 ml for the planned wash at home, 50 ml for on the road. The price per litre of the small bottle is a good three times higher. Carry it anyway and you save the days the bird droppings would otherwise sit on the paint.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\n\u003chr\u003e\n\n\u003cblockquote class=\"praxistipp\"\u003e\n  \u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDetailing1's tip from the shop:\u003c\/strong\u003e What we see a lot is the ALL in ONE being used like a spray cleaner: sprayed all over dry paint, then left to sit in the sun. Dr. Wack says the opposite. A little goes on the wet sponge, not on the panel, and it must not dry on. The 3 minutes on the data sheet are the ceiling for a second pass on a small area, not a starting value. If something has dried on anyway, only water and a fresh start will help.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/blockquote\u003e\n\n\u003chr\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eAfter the pre-rinse and before the shampoo comes the ALL in ONE\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCoarse dirt gets rinsed off first with plenty of water, then the heavy-duty cleaner goes onto the wet wash mitt, and only after that do you run the normal wash with shampoo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat's the order in the product information sheet, and it still gets flipped all the time. Step one is water, not chemistry. Loose grit, gritting salt and traffic film on the paint have to come off before any textile touches the panel. Put the cleaner on an unrinsed bonnet and you grind in exactly the particles the product can do nothing about.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThen shake the bottle and put a little product on the wet sponge or wash mitt. Dr. Wack recommends its own A1 wash mitt made of premium microfibre. Work it in with light pressure, and light is an instruction here, not a courtesy: the cleaner is meant to break the bond, your arm isn't meant to shear anything off. If a spot is stubborn, add more product instead of pressing harder.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIf a sap spot is still there after the first pass, go for the second one: apply product again, leave it for a maximum of 3 minutes, work over it with light pressure, rinse. That applies to spots and palm-sized patches, not a whole door. Finally, rinse with plenty of water until no product residue runs off.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIn practice it pays to think of the car in zones. Bugs sit on the front, mirror backs and mirror bases, tar on the sills and behind the wheels, sap mostly on the roof and bonnet. Those zones get the heavy-duty cleaner, the rest gets shampoo. Use a separate towel for wheels, because brake dust doesn't belong in the mitt you're about to run over the paint.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThere's a technical reason Dr. Wack lists the formula as solvent-free for this job. Cleaners that attack sap and tar with strong solvents can swell plastic and dry out rubber seals. Here surfactants do the work, which is why the same mitt can go over paint, polycarbonate headlights, trim strips and window seals. On all other exterior surfaces the product is approved, and there it takes off the existing sealant along with the dirt.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eMatte surfaces get their look from a roughened structure that scatters light in every direction. A cleaner that strips wax and sealant layers works right into that structure and can smooth it in places. Then a surface that's meant to stay matte starts to shine, and you can't polish that back.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe second limit is deliberate and listed as a product benefit on the data sheet: the ALL in ONE strips wax and sealant layers. Before a polish or a fresh sealant, that's exactly what you want. For the Saturday wash, it means the paint is less protected afterwards than before. So plan the protection into the same session, for example with the \u003ca href=\"\/products\/dr-wack-a1-all-in-one-care-und-protect-spruehversiegelung\"\u003espray sealant for all exterior surfaces\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe cleaner doesn't dissolve iron. If the paint feels gritty after the wash, there are fallout particles in it, meaning fine brake dust and rail dust embedded in the clear coat. That needs a product that binds iron chemically; in the range, that's the \u003ca href=\"\/products\/dr-wack-a1-flugrost-entferner-gel-flugrostentferner\"\u003eA1 \"Flugrost-Entferner Gel\" iron remover\u003c\/a\u003e. The ALL in ONE has no abrasives either: swirls and scratches stay where they are.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat gives you the buying rule. If only the front is plastered with bugs after a motorway run, a dedicated \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/insektenentferner\"\u003ebug remover\u003c\/a\u003e is enough, and your sealant stays put. For the weekly wash, this cleaner is too thorough.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eDecon is scene shorthand for decontamination, meaning everything that has to come off the surface before polish and sealant. The step has two halves, an organic one and a metallic one. The A1 ALL in ONE heavy-duty cleaner handles the organic half, clears bugs, bird droppings, sap and tar and takes the old protective layer with it. The metallic half stays the job of the iron remover.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIf you wash your car every week and want to keep the sealant intact, a normal shampoo serves you better. Then there's consumption: testers report that a 500 ml bottle stretches to more than one wash depending on car size and dosing, but it isn't meant for a whole season of Saturdays. That fits what the product is supposed to do.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe two sizes map exactly onto those roles. The 500 ml bottle is the planned option and sits on the shelf next to the bucket and mitt. The 50 ml bottle is the unplanned one, 12.5 centimetres tall and so it fits in the door pocket. One detail the manufacturer never connects: the bottle mustn't see temperatures above 50 °C, and a closed car in the summer sun blows past that mark. In high summer it belongs in the shade of the footwell, or back inside with you in the evening.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe two dates in the year pick themselves. In spring the car is wearing the bug layer from the first warm weeks and the winter's traffic film, and that's exactly when you polish and seal anyway. The second date falls in late summer, when conifer sap and the sticky coating from lime trees sit on the roof and bonnet and the heat has made tar soft enough to settle into the sills.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe strongest reason to carry the small bottle at all isn't on any label: bird droppings aren't a chemistry problem, they're a time problem. They etch for as long as they sit there, and the warmer the paint, the faster. The other side of the equation is just as clear-cut. If you plan the heavy-duty cleaner, plan the protection afterwards too. Put both into the same afternoon and you get bare, clean paint with a fresh sealant.
