Half an hour later there's no bitter sludge on the table, just the same coffee as the first pour. This is exactly where every glass press loses.\u003c\/li\u003e\n  \u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eIt falls off the folding table and carries on.\u003c\/strong\u003e 18\/8 stainless steel, double-walled, rubberised base, 1.2 kilos empty for the small one and 1.66 for the big one. There's no glass to break, and YETI backs it with a five-year warranty. You don't just drop the clear lid on, you twist it in until the tabs on the lid lock into the notches in the rim. If it stops just short, half the spout runs over your hand as you pour. YETI explicitly says coarse, roughly as coarse as coarse sea salt. The plunger goes down at the latest when you get out of the car, and after that it's just pouring.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat's the scene this thing is built for. Cars and Coffee in March, up at half five, a forty-minute drive in the dark, and on site there's a bakery van that opens at eight. That's two hours away. If you've brought the coffee, you spend that time at your own car, not in the queue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe routine is always the same. Grind coarse, put the kettle on, pour, twist the lid in, press into the footwell behind the passenger seat. On site it goes on the folding table, the plunger goes down, done. The rubberised base keeps it where you put it, even when someone bumps the edge of the table.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAfter that the long handle running the full height of the press takes over. You can pour one-handed with the cup in the other hand while explaining what engine is under the bonnet. We took the one-litre version along to Sunday meets for a whole season. It emptied at every single one, but never on its own.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe second scene is the longer one. Paddock, midday, the car's on the trailer and nothing happens for an hour. That's where the brew stop pays off: what you pour at twelve tastes like what you poured at half ten. The spout can't be closed, so where it stands decides how long it stays warm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat's this product's most honest limit and the one reviews argue about. An American tester got about three hours, a German test just under one. The difference isn't a measuring error, it's the spout: stand the press on the table and top up, and you're at the top end. Put it in the wind or let it ride around on the passenger seat, and you're at the bottom end with coffee in the footwell as a bonus.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe second limit is in the filter. The GroundsControl filter is the real reason to buy it, but it can't be taken apart. After the meet you have to rinse it, and the wet grounds need to go somewhere without a drain. The inside is ceramic, and ceramic can chip if you knock a spoon against it. And the press never goes in the freezer, because the insulation won't forgive it. The fridge is fine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat leaves the size, and this is where most wrong purchases happen. If there are two of you and you top up once, go for the litre. If you're the one whose tailgate half the car park gathers around, go for the 1.9 litres. Every part can go in there, the plunger included. What you're holding afterwards has a scuff on the base and, on the edge above the spout, that one spot where the finish eventually gives. That's the point reviews criticise most, and it happens to everyone.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eInside, on the other hand, almost nothing happens. The ceramic layer doesn't take coffee stains and doesn't build up a film, so Sunday's press doesn't smell of stale coffee on Wednesday. If you've ever drunk from a stainless steel pot that tastes like an ashtray after three weeks, you know what that's worth day to day.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWho it's not for: the solo drinker, the rucksack, and anyone who wants to drink their coffee on the move from a sealed vessel. If you drink while driving, you need a travel mug with a screw lid. If you pour for several people on arrival, you need this press. One doesn't replace the other.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIn summer it can do one more thing. The body is the same as the insulated pitcher's, so the \u003ca href=\"\/products\/yeti-ersatzdeckel-rambler-pitcher-magslider-lid\"\u003elid with twist and slider closure\u003c\/a\u003e fits it and turns the press into a closed vessel for cold drinks. Cold brew in the fridge overnight, lid on in the morning, off to the meet. That lid is explicitly not approved for hot contents, but for iced coffee in August it's spot on.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThen you need cups that go with the press. The rest of the range is in the \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/yeti\"\u003eoutdoor and drinkware category\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe colours are White and Navy in both sizes. That matters in one practical way: White shows every coffee splash at the spout, Navy shows the scratches more clearly after the third season. No colour hides both, so pick the one that suits the car.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe one trick no manufacturer puts on the product page: rinse the press once with hot water before the coffee goes in, and tip the water out. 1.2 kilos of cold stainless steel pull more heat out of the first brew than the whole drive to the meet does afterwards.
