Nastro carrozziere

(1 prodotti)
Masking tape protects unpainted plastic, rubber seals, joints, and thin painted edges from light polish residue and burn-through during machine polishing on a car. A thin, residue-free masking tape that conforms to curves is suitable; painter's tape is designed for paint edges, and packaging tape for cardboard. The Koch-Chemie Masking Tape is available in our range as a 50-meter roll; the width selection is explained under masking tape by width.

  • Nastro carrozziere

Frequently Asked Questions about Masking Tape

Which masking tape should I use for car polishing?

For polishing, use masking tape: a thin adhesive tape that conforms to seals and contours and creates a sharp edge. In our range, we carry the Koch-Chemie Masking Tape "50m" as a 50-meter roll, described by the manufacturer as removable without leaving any residue. To see which width fits which component, check out masking tape by width.

Do I have to mask before polishing, and which parts exactly?

Masking is mandatory wherever polish could cause damage: unpainted plastic, rubber seals, gaps, and thinly painted edges or moldings. Painted emblems and add-on parts do not necessarily require tape if you have steady machine control. As a beginner, it is better to mask too much; with experience, you can stick to just the zones that cannot tolerate polish.

Why not just use painter's tape from the hardware store?

Painter's tape is designed for clean paint edges when painting walls, not for the friction and heat generated by a polishing machine. Forums are full of reports about tape residue left on paint and seals, especially after exposure to heat or if left on for too long. Duct tape and heavy-duty tape are even less suitable because their adhesive softens and transfers onto the paint.

When should I remove the masking tape after polishing?

Remove the tape as soon as the component has gone through all polishing stages, not just at the end of the day. Pull it flat, almost parallel to the surface, slowly and in one smooth motion so that the paint edge is not stressed. Afterward, re-mask the adjacent component so that the previously covered edge can also be polished.

How long can masking tape remain on paint and plastic?

As short as possible, ideally only for the polishing process on one component. Heat and sun soften the adhesive, and the longer the tape remains, the more likely it is to leave residue behind. According to Google Trends, interest in car polishing reaches its peak in August. Tape should never be left on a car overnight or outdoors for days.

Does masking tape leave residue on the paint?

A masking tape described by the manufacturer as residue-free can be peeled off cleanly after a polishing cycle. Residue primarily occurs due to being left on too long, heat, or unsuitable tapes. If any residue does remain, an adhesive remover like Koch-Chemie Eulex "Eu" will dissolve the remnants. Always test on an inconspicuous area first if working on fresh repair paint.

Taping off a car for polishing in six steps

    1. Identify components. Walk around the vehicle once and note where unpainted plastic, rubber seals, gaps, and thinly painted edges meet the surface to be polished.
    2. Clean and degrease the edge. Make the taping area clean, dry, and grease-free, for example with a degreaser such as the Koch-Chemie Panel Preparation Spray "Pps".
    3. Apply and press the tape precisely. Place the tape exactly between the paint edge and the trim or seal, open doors to do this, and press the tape down carefully. Do not use a continuous strip of tape across multiple components.
    4. Polish the component completely. Process the taped component through all polishing stages from the cutting pass to the gloss stage (cut and finish) without changing the tape in between.
    5. Peel off the tape flat. Pull the tape off slowly, flatly, almost parallel to the surface, and in one go, then clear the edge of polishing dust.
    6. Re-tape the adjacent component. Apply new tape for the next component so that the edge that was just covered is also polished.
